Word Wisdom is a helpful tool for students to learn new vocabulary. It allows them to understand the meaning of new words and phrases by using context clues, analyzing word parts, and consulting reference materials. Students will also learn about word relationships, nuances in word meaning, and acquire general academic and subject-specific words through direct instruction and context-clue strategies.

The student edition of this resource provides a year’s worth of lessons that help students understand over 300 new vocabulary words in context. They will process new words through activities that reinforce meanings and apply them using higher thinking skills.

This Grade 8 course consists of nine units: behavior, measurement, communication, society, movement, good and bad, time, the mind, and law and order. Each unit covers the use of context clues, specific Latin and/or Greek roots such as err, pla, plea, vers, vert, and others, and reference skills like syllabication and pronunciation from a dictionary. It also explores word origins and more.

The Teacher Edition provides annotated Student Edition pages, weekly and daily instructional planners, student learning objectives, assessment blackline masters, helpful teaching tips, and a correlation to the Common Core State Standards. It also includes a CD-ROM with printable games and activities.
