Description
The Melendy Quartet is a children’s series that follows the adventures of siblings Mona (13), Rush (12), Randy (10-and-a-half), and Oliver (6). The first novel in the series, The Saturdays, is where it all begins. Despite only receiving $0.50 a week allowance, Randy comes up with the idea of pooling their money together so each sibling can experience something they want to do on a Saturday.
Throughout the summer, they embark on various adventures. Randy visits an art museum, Rush goes to the opera house to hear Siegfried, Mona visits a salon, and Oliver just wants to be independent like his older siblings. They all return with stories to tell and lessons learned.
Written over 50 years ago, The Saturdays is both a charming snapshot of the mid-20th century and a timeless tale of childhood fun. The softcover book contains 177 pages.
