Description
Word Wisdom is designed to help 8th grade students improve their vocabulary skills by understanding new words and phrases in context. Through the use of context clues and analysis of meaningful word parts, students will be able to unlock the meaning of unfamiliar words.
Throughout the course, students will activate their prior knowledge, use context clue strategies, and analyze roots to interpret unfamiliar words in any context. The vocabulary words included in the lessons are Tier Two academic words that have been selected based on word frequency studies. These words are unlikely to be learned through conversation but are commonly found in written texts across various subjects.
This student book contains a year’s worth of lessons and covers the meaning of 270 new vocabulary words. Divided into 9 thematic units, each unit consists of 30 words. Each lesson includes a reading passage followed by a context clues strategy, and exercises titled Unlock the Meanings, Process the Meanings, and Apply What You’ve Learned. At the end of each unit, there is a review section and a practice test.
